The music available here by no means represents what I am looking to do in a band context. This was a musical experiment!!! I recorded these songs when I was without a band and bored. They in no way represent the band "Kung Fu Cricket", the band "Perran" or the range of styles I am capable of writing.

When You Walk Into the Room

This is a pretty kewl song. It is a mixture of a electronic- dance  combined with straight ahead hard rock-melodic metal. It turned out well. There are melodic dance elements in the Synths combined with melodic chord progressions usually associated with melodic hard rock. This is one extreme of the music experiment, that these three songs represents.

The song itself is about that feeling you get when you see your lost love walk in the room unexpectedly... you don't know weather you are happy or sad or angry or what... you just know that you still love each other and that its a dead relationship too... Its the companion piece to  "Wouldn't You Like" and  "Get Wild (In My Dreams)" and differs in that it is based on mental and emotional reactions, and not obsessions.

The
Guitars were all recorded direct, similar in method to "Get Wild (In My Dreams)" but with a different texture to them. I was looking for a buzz saw like distortion again, but with a different emphasis in the midrange, with a little more punch and growl too. I  quadruple tracked the parts, with the exception of the heavy bridges, they create three different parts there, and one that followed the bass pretty closely, all of which all form one master impression. I stayed with a consistent tone for each of the 4 tracks of guitar through the song, although each guitar track sounded different unto itself. I didn't go for near as much theme and variation that was an integral part of "Wouldn't You Like" or "Get Wild (In My Dreams)" nor did I layer as many parts and textures. That's not what I wanted here. I was looking to see how 2 distinct styles of music would work out when fused. I like the way it turned out, although I wouldn't base a career on this style  ;)

Concerning the
Bass Parts, there are 2 to 3 distinct parts depending on the section of the song, accomplished with 4 different Bass tones.... 1 was what a Bass Guitarist  would play, but using a pair very fat yet sterile and synthetic bass tones, and then 2 other sounds that resemble Moog Taurus Pedals. I didn't vary the pocket at all in this piece from a Bass point of view like I did in  "Wouldn't You Like" or "When You Walk Into the Room" . I kept the time pretty much "on top" of  the beat, very unlike what the Bass usually does with Hard rock and Metal.

I have very little to say about the Keyboard parts and sounds.... I only used a couple, one that was a happy sounding tone, that played a somber type of upbeat melody and a few other different things here and there. A lot of what I did is covered in the Bass explanation. At the end of the actual song, I did go off into a dance groove break out that took the main keyboard themes in a new direction, and used some secret techniques I developed to produce some pretty wild sounds. Check it out and tell me what you think . I will add that yet once again I avoided contemporary sounds as much as I could. I just don't like sounding like everyone else.

The
Drums to this were insane to sequence, there are 3 distinct different kits plus tons of assorted extra sounds thrown in at various points. Several of the parts were designed to emulate what a drummer might do if he were a computer so I didn't vary the pocket at all, not to mention all of the various percussion and industrial sounds buried in there somewhere. :)
